WORKFLOW
Tender keyword search strategy for specialist suppliers
A specialist supplier needs a search vocabulary that reflects how buyers describe the work. One broad term can create a noisy list, while one narrow term can overlook differently worded notices. Treat search terms as a review aid that improves over time.
Build three small vocabularies
Start with service names, related delivery activities and buyer outcomes. For a migration practice these might include cloud migration, application transition and platform modernisation. These examples are brainstorming prompts, not evidence of search volume or live opportunity availability. Test each against actual official notices and inspect the context.
Avoid matching a word without its role
A service may be mentioned as a dependency, an incumbent arrangement or something excluded from the requirement. Read the surrounding description. A notice about procuring a new business system might mention migration without creating a separate migration-services opportunity. The keyword gives you a place to investigate.
Record false positives before narrowing
Classify unhelpful results: wrong service, wrong delivery model, unsupported location or unrelated use of a word. Refine the capability profile accordingly. Apply exclusions with care when notices contain multiple services or lots, since a broad exclusion can hide a relevant portion of the work.
Combine discovery with a review discipline
Use the official search service and retain source links for shortlisted items. A search strategy cannot guarantee complete coverage. J8VEST adds a bounded first screen of Find a Tender excerpts against one company profile; it does not promise an exhaustive search or replace your review of full procurement documents.
Keep this checklist
- Write service terms and useful synonyms.
- Read the context of each apparent match.
- Refine based on documented false positives.
Official starting points
Use GOV.UK’s Find a Tender entry point and the official Find a Tender service for the original notices. The workflows and fictional examples above are J8VEST’s practical suggestions, not government guidance or a claim about a live procurement.
